Early Years

Foundational Skills & Sensory Exploration

In the early years, the art curriculum focuses on building foundational skills in visual thinking, problem-solving, sensory exploration, fine motor development, and self-expression. Children are introduced to basic elements of art — line, shape, color, and texture — through hands-on activities like drawing, painting, clay molding, and craft projects. Using tools like crayons, markers, brushes, and sponges, they explore various mediums including watercolor, tempera, clay, and collage materials. This interactive approach nurtures creativity, enhances coordination, and fosters an early appreciation for visual art, laying the groundwork for lifelong artistic growth.

Techniques, Visual Styles & Creative Expression

The Primary Years Art Program focuses on building a strong foundation in visual arts by deepening students' understanding of artistic techniques, visual styles, and creative expression. Learners explore art movements like realism, abstraction, and impressionism while mastering key elements of art such as color, form, space, texture, and balance. They experiment with techniques like shading, blending, and layering through hands-on projects that encourage self-expression and personal growth. Students work with diverse tools and media including graphite pencils, charcoal, pastels, acrylics, watercolors, gouache, palette knives, and sponges. The program fosters technical skills in drawing, painting, and mixed media while promoting reflection, collaboration, and appreciation of cultural art forms and famous artists.
