Music
Early Years
At Skill Stork International School, the music curriculum offers a progressive learning experience starting in the Early Years. Children engage with music through activities like singing nursery rhymes and playing percussion instruments such as tambourines, maracas, castanets, clave sticks, xylophones, and shakers. These activities develop rhythm, melody, and motor skills while fostering a love for music.
Primary Years
In the primary years, the programme broadens to explore various musical genres, from pop to classical. Students focus on improving singing techniques with proper pitching and vocal control, and learn the elements of music — rhythm, melody, harmony, and dynamics. They experiment with instruments like keyboards, bongos, djembes, and cajons, encouraging self-expression and creativity.
Secondary Years
In the secondary years, the focus shifts to refining techniques and performance skills. Students learn to accompany themselves on guitars, keyboards, and drums, and practise vocal techniques using karaoke tracks and microphones. They analyse songs — exploring aesthetics, emotions, and expressions — while composing music and collaborating in performances. This builds teamwork, artistic presentation, and stage presence.
Senior Secondary Years
The senior secondary music programme offers an advanced approach, combining performance, composition, and music history. Students explore diverse musical styles, gaining in-depth knowledge of music creation. With access to instruments, theory, and recording equipment, students are prepared for careers in the music industry or further academic study.
Comprehensive Music Infrastructure & Resources
Skill Stork offers excellent infrastructure to support the music syllabus: dedicated areas for percussion and melody instruments, a professional mic system for choir singing, and a wide range of instruments including guitars, ukuleles, drums, cajons, keyboards, a piano, and early years percussion like shakers, maracas, and xylophones.
Dance
Early Years
The dance curriculum begins in the Early Years with simple movements that help children develop coordination and body awareness. Through music and dance, students express themselves while building foundational skills in rhythm and physical movement.
Primary Years
In the primary years, students explore various dance styles including ballet, jazz, hip-hop, and traditional Indian forms like Bharatanatyam and Kathak. The focus is on learning basic techniques, improving coordination, and fostering creativity — helping students discover their preferences and build confidence in movement.
Secondary Years
The programme becomes more advanced, with students refining technique, experimenting with choreography, and learning about the history and context of different dance styles. The emphasis is on technical skills, storytelling through movement, and collaboration in group performances.
Senior Secondary Years
At the senior secondary level, students engage in advanced choreography, study dance theory and history, and develop their unique styles. This comprehensive approach prepares them for careers in dance, choreography, or further academic study — providing both practical and theoretical knowledge for the professional world.
